Draden
Draden was in Gdansk the Warmia name for the Garnmaß " thread " in the textile industry . The name is derived from "wire", which means "thread" in Low German.
When the yarn was wound onto a counting reel , a regionally different number of draden was tied or tied into a bundle one after the other (hence the name "bundle"). Finally, a certain amount of bundle forms the finished strand of yarn . A thread or draden was measured by one full turn of a reel. The thread length was therefore dependent on the circumference of the reel, which in turn was also determined by the material of the yarn to be measured.
- 1 Draden = 3 ½ Berlin cubits = 2.33 meters
- 1 bundle = 40 draden linen thread
- 1 piece of thread = 60 bundles = 2400 draden
- 1 shock = 4 pieces = 240 bundles = 9600 draden hemp and heden yarn
