Dragon - sons of Atlantis
Dragon - Sons of Atlantis is a German booklet series from Erich Pabel Verlag , which appeared from 1973 to 1975 and reached a total of 55 editions. The series was written by authors who also worked on other booklet series published by Pabel-Verlag ( Perry Rhodan , Vampir, etc.). The team of authors included William Voltz , Clark Darlton , HG Ewers , Hans Kneifel , Peter Terrid , Ernst Vlcek and Hugh Walker . Most of them later work in the much longer booklet novel series Mythor that follows .
action
The continent of Atlantis was once an interstellar trading center and was the center of technical knowledge for humans and aliens. This took place in a hostile surprise attack around 17000 BC. A sudden end: Atlantis was destroyed, the descendants of the survivors fell back into primitiveness without access to the technical possibilities of their forefathers.
Once an astronomer and scientist, Dragon survived the disaster and rested in a cold sleep capsule for about 2,000 years. When the capsule around 15000 BC When it is discovered and opened in Asia Minor BC , its discoverers consider Dragon to be a god. He's not the only survivor of the disaster, however: Cnossos, a long-lived alien who was stranded on Earth after the disaster, is also worshiped as a god. When Cnossos learns of Dragons existence, a struggle for the supremacy of the two "gods" begins.
background
Dragon was conceived in the early 1970s by Pabel publishing editor Günter M. Schelwokat as a pure fantasy adventure. The prelude, which consisted of three booklets and was written by William Voltz, contained clear science fiction elements, and the later booklets never forgot that the fantasy elements were embedded in a "classic" science fiction plot. The series did not find a sufficient readership; later attempts to give the plot even clearer science fiction elements failed. The series was abruptly discontinued (in the middle of the current story cycle) in April 1975. A new, but this time much more successful attempt to establish a fantasy series was not made by the Erich-Pabel-Verlag until 1980 with the Mythor magazine series , on which many Dragon authors also worked.
The first three Dragon novels written by William Voltz were reprinted in 1982 as a two-volume paperback edition. For legal reasons, the name of the main character was changed to "Wakan".
In 1999 Weltbild-Verlag published a new edition of the series as a hardcover . The success of the series was surprisingly good, so that a closing volume was written by Hugh Walker, which brought the plot, which remained unfinished in 1975, to a conclusion. In addition to the 19 volumes, the workshop volume Dragons Welt, edited by Hans Kneifel and Roman Sander, was published .
Two other new Dragon novels by Hugh Walker were published in 2001 and 2002 (the second of the two novels, however, only as an e-book). The series is now discontinued until further notice.
