Günter M. Schelwokat

Günter Martin Schelwokat (born February 7, 1929 in Tilsit , East Prussia ; † April 6, 1992 in Straubing ) was a German publisher , program manager, author and translator who was responsible for the production and content orientation of novels in the science fiction genre in Germany Second World War decisively shaped.

Live and act

Günter M. Schelwokat was born in Tilsit and grew up there. During the Second World War he moved to Bavaria. Straubing became his second home. He studied modern philology in Munich . He then worked as a teacher. He worked as an interpreter for the American occupation forces . This gave the decisive impetus for his relationship with science fiction.

Shortly after the start of the Perry Rhodan novel series , which was initiated in 1961 by Karl-Herbert Scheer and Walter Ernsting , Schelwokat began working on the series. For three decades until his death he was editor-in-chief and senior editor of the content of Perry Rhodan. At times he was also involved in the conception and realization of the novel series Atlan , Dragon - Sons of Atlantis and Terra .

According to Ernst Vlcek , Schelwokat was “referred to as 'Straubing's sadist' because of his meticulous proofreading of the manuscripts. The Moewig authors feared his calls, in which he took the culprits 'tough' because of their sloppiness. ”After Schelwokat's death, Florian F. Marzin and Klaus N. Frick continued to work on the Perry Rhodan novels .

Schelwokat also emerged as a translator and editor of classic science fiction literature. So he presented the German version of a novel by Robert A. Heinlein .
