HG Ewers

HG Ewers , actually Horst Gehrmann , (* 1. January 1930 in Weissenfels an der Saale; † 19th September 2013 in Weil am Rhein ) was a German science fiction - writers .

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship and working in a car dealership, Ewers began studying medicine in Halle (Saale) in 1956 , which he was unable to complete because of his critical attitude towards the regime. Instead he became a high school teacher. Shortly before the Wall was built in 1961, he fled to West Germany. His first novel Intrige auf Chibbu , already written in the GDR, was published here in 1962 under the pseudonym HG Ewers. In 1964 he wrote his first paperback for the Perry-Rhodan series with Die vergeschnisvolle Expedition , from 1965 he was also involved in the booklet series with volume 198. Ewers also wrote many volumes for the Atlan spin-off series . He was known for his quirky humor and as a creator of original characters. In total, Ewers wrote more than 445 science fiction novels, including more than 300 for the Perry Rhodan series.

From 1996 Gehrmann studied medicine again at the University of Basel . He was involved, among other things, in the Mars Society and lived in Weil am Rhein .

On November 29, 2013 - Ewers had previously died in September 2013 - the Perry Rhodan booklet novel 2728 with the title Die Gravo Architects was published . The cover picture of this volume, created by Swen Papenbrock , shows a portrait of HG Ewers.
