Drautran is a German pagan metal band from Kiel ( Schleswig-Holstein ).
history
Four years after their founding in 1996, they published their first demo in 2000 under the banner of the north winds , which they recorded and distributed on their own. The demo was initially limited to 1000 pieces, but was re-released in 2009 via Lupus Lounge as a digipak with a new design. In 2007, Lupus Lounge released their first album Throne of the Depths .
Since then there has been no further release and no specific announcements for a planned new album by the band. However, the band announced on April 16, 2009 at 7:57 am on Facebook : "We are working on some new merchandise as well."
Singer Blutaar (aka Jorge Scholz) was active with Árstíðir Lífsins from 2008 to 2013 .
style
Drautran's songs are influenced by the Norwegian variety of Black Metal as well as by traditional folklore, are kept quite melodic and are extremely varied overall. There are frequent changes between fast, aggressive, medium-fast and very calm, melancholic parts within a piece. The mostly discreetly used keyboard contributes significantly to the dramatic and melancholy atmosphere in almost all pieces. Undistorted guitar parts with a strong echo are also used more often to create the appropriate atmosphere.
The singing growled alternately or in combination with clear and emotional singing leads u. a. to the fact that Drautran is often compared to the band Nagelfar . But unlike Nagelfar, acoustic or folk passages and songs (e.g. Framentanz on the album Unter dem Banner der Nordwinde ) can also be found on the two releases.
Again and again, background noise from nature is built in, e.g. B. in the song Prolog: Die Seidr-Kunst as the introduction of the album Under the banner of the north winds , as well as at the beginning of the song Gen Niflheim ... from the album Throne of the Depths .
The themes generally include Norse mythology , death, and existence.

"Its quintessence originates from the perfect blend of tempestuous and chaotic brutality, mid-paced, sombre melodies and occasional touches of acoustic / folk, soaring with majestic and harmonious serenity - music, akin to the many aspects of the forces of nature.
Many a listener attests DRAUTRAN complexity and innovation on a high technical-level, an uttermost intensive dramaturgy, yet conveying an epic nature supported by a progressive and hymnic keyboard play and emotional variations in the otherwise rather raging vocal approach. "
