Dreamkillers is an Australian metalcore band from Brisbane that was founded in 1991, disbanded in 1998 and has been active again since 2006.

history

The band was formed in 1991 and took their name from the 1957 film The Red Planet by Williams Burrows. The line-up initially consisted of drummer Paul McCullum, bassist Terry McDougall, guitarists Sid Roberts and Sean Witcher, and singer Les Jobson. The members had previously worked for the bands Insane Hombres and Mystery of Sixes. With Poison in the Soup (1992), Carnival of Skin (1993) and Fairgrounds for Insanity (1993) the first three EPs were released on Velvet Urge Records , while groups like Sepultura and Body Count took place . Then the line-up changed: Lindsay Beasley aka "Lindsay Tstdmanin" joined in 1994 on drums and Dave Smith on bass. In 1995 the album Scorched Earth Policy was released on Siren Records . Due to the unstable line-up, the band had actually already broken up when Roadrunner Records became aware of them and signed them. The album Character Building Hell-Trip was recorded with a four-person line-up , before being broken up shortly after its release in 1998. The 1999 Roadrunner Records released Poison Carnival is a compilation of the first two EPs. In 2006, Jobson revived the band under the name Jobson's Dreamkillers, with the group next to him consisting of members of the Brisbane punk band Psychotic Lemmings. Initially, it was only intended to appear on the annual 4ZZZ Market Day, but due to the positive response, the decision was made to permanently revive the project. 2010 was published by Rare Collectable Records EP Pockets of Water album as well as a self-released I'm Not Sorry Fuck'n as a CD-R . The band now consists of guitarists Ross Cobb and Kev Lemming, drummer Krist Hellboy and singer Les Jobson. In their career, the group has also performed with L7 , The Damned and Rollins Band , among others .

style

According to Brian Fischer-Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays metalcore with socially critical lyrics, the style leaning more towards hardcore punk than metal . The music is often aggressive but humorous. Thomas Hähnel from Ox-Fanzine called the music on Scorched Earth Policy “hypnotic-apocalyptic metal”, which makes Life of Agony look old. The singing often reminds of Voivod . The music is rather less suitable for punks .
