Trinity Chapel (Koblenz-Güls)
The Trinity Chapel is a Catholic chapel in Koblenz . The chapel, the construction of which cannot be dated, is located in the Güls district and is a memorial for the flood disaster in 1932. It bears the patronage of the Holy Trinity .
history
The Trinity Chapel was built on the property of the neighboring Müller Mill. The time of construction can no longer be determined due to a lack of sources. It is likely, however, that the chapel was built after the Thirty Years' War .
The chapel gained fame through an event on May 16, 1932. 34 people sought protection in the building during a storm . The following flash flood , however, trapped the people and threatened to drown. Workers from the neighboring mill heard the cries for help and were able to free them through the roof. Four people died in the flash flood in Güls. The rescued people thanked the Holy Trinity for their salvation and put a baroque painting on the altar and a plaque inside.
construction
The Trinity Chapel is a small building with a gable roof . At the front the entrance door, flanked by semicircular templates, above it two small round windows. On the wall on the opposite side is an altar from the middle of the 17th century, which was installed here after the Koblenz Charterhouse was dissolved in 1805. The altar has a frame with vine-covered spiral columns that support a vertical gable . The altar panel shows an oil painting depicting the Holy Trinity from the 18th century. On the right side wall there is a memorial plaque for the survivors of the flood disaster of 1932. Here you can read:
- “ Watch and pray! The 34 who were saved thank St. Trinity and the lb. Our Lady for the happy rescue from the great flood of water on Whit Monday, May 16, 1932. "

The Trinity Chapel is a protected cultural monument under the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in Koblenz-Güls Am Mühlbach / Unter der Fürstenwiese .
