History and architecture

The cathedral is the largest and most important Serbian Orthodox church in Pakrac, but it is also its only one. There are also two Roman Catholic churches in Pakrac .

From 1745 to 1768 the Trinity Cathedral was built in the Baroque style. From 1793 to 1796 the cathedral was renovated by the famous Viennese architect Hermann Bollé , a native of Cologne . He gave it New Byzantine elements. The then Eparch of the Eparchy Miron (Nikolić) played an important role in the restoration of the cathedral . The cathedral as well as the bishop's palace are one of the most important monuments of Neo-Byzantineism in Croatia.

The cathedral's monumental iconostasis was the work of carpenters from the Croatian capital, Zagreb . The icons were painted by the two Serbian artists Stevan Todorović and Živko Jugović. The iconostasis and most of the inventory of the cathedral disappeared during the Croatian War (1991-1995).

In 1991, the Trinity Cathedral was bombed and set on fire by Croatian forces, causing severe damage to the interior and exterior of the cathedral. The same happened with the bishop's palace. From 2003 to 2005 the cathedral was partially renovated without giving it back its old glory. The cathedral has been renewed since 2012.
