Holy Trinity Church

The Protestant Church of the Holy Trinity in Schmiedeberg (city of Dippoldiswalde ) in Saxony was built between 1713 and 1716. The builder is George Bähr , the builder of the Frauenkirche in Dresden . The church is characterized by a general symmetry. The floor plan is formed by a Greek cross , the roofs are hipped and the roof turret is positioned in the middle as a central element. The roof turret dates from 1734. Building history

August Schumann reports in Volume 10 of his Lexicon, published in 1823, that Johannes Egidius von Alemann established his own parish in Schmiedeberg in 1703 . Until then Schmiedeberg was parish in Sadisdorf . In his mansion, Alemann initially set up a hall for church services with an organ. In 1705 he built a house of prayer in the cemetery, then built a rectory and finally had the church built from 1713 to 1716.

A bronze plaque bears the inscription above the door

“Our Triune God Is here Lord, Sun VnD SChILD. SeLa . "

It refers to Psalm 84.12  LUT and gives the year 1716 as a chronogram .

Interior of the church

The interior, a central building, is defined by an axis made of baptismal font, altar, pulpit and organ and the patron s box opposite at the exit. The double coat of arms on the box is dedicated to the church donors. Behind the organ prospect from the Baroque period from 1716 there is an organ by Wilhelm Rühle from 1967. The baroque font comes from Johann Benjamin Thomae .
