The Dreifaltigkeitskirche is a Roman Catholic church in Bestwig in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It belongs to the Bestwig mountain monastery .

History and architecture

The building was constructed from 1965 to 1971 under the direction of the architect Alois Möhring and consecrated on December 8, 1971 by Abbot Harduin Bießle of the Königsmünster Abbey . It stands on a hill. Together with another building, it forms transverse wings, resulting in a closed inner courtyard. On the long sides of the rectangular floor plan, the continuous surfaces of the roof result in high gables. The church is accessed in the inner courtyard via a staircase to the upper floor. The wooden ceiling in the high, light-flooded interior is angled several times, the gallery on the back stands on round supports. The liturgical area is slightly raised. The concept for the equipment comes from Heinrich Gerhard Bücker . The altar table, the ambo , the tabernacle and three steles are remarkable . Relics of Pankratius and the blessed Sister Placida Viel are set in the altar table . The organ brochure for the Romanus Seifert organ was also designed by Bücker, the arrangement of the instrument comes from the organist Erich Robert Sorge , who was connected to the order until his death. The instrument, whose specialty are the Spanish trumpets , is on the right in the chancel. The building is also used for events.

TV service

On March 18, 2012, ZDF broadcast a live television service under the motto Shadow and Light from the Church. Abbot Dominicus Meier from Königsmünster Abbey celebrated mass.
