history

The first facility, a rectangular hall structure , was built around 1100. Thus the fortified church , the tower has 5 loopholes , is one of the oldest in the Westerwald . The first documentary mention comes from the year 1319. The hall was raised and extended to form a three-aisled nave around 1200. At the same time, the square, four- story choir tower with apse was added. Up until the Reformation, the building was a pilgrimage church .

In the Gothic period the aisles were demolished and the arcades walled up. The tower was raised and with a pointed spire provided. According to an inscription on the pulpit, the interior was refurbished in 1699, the nave was given a mansard roof and the windows were changed to Baroque style . Two half-timbered aisles and a transverse west building were added.

The architect Erich Thomas from Altenkirchen changed the structurally inconspicuous half-timbered building with a Romanesque tower from 1956 to 1959, taking into account the customary local architecture. The half-timbered wall that had become visible was left in place.

Smaller excavations documented the history of the church. The church is named for the place Dreifelden.
