The Dreifaltigkeitskirche is a Roman Catholic church in Flein . It was built by the Catholic parish in Flein, which grew rapidly after the Second World War , in 1955/56 and a parish center was added in 1974/75.

description

Due to its former affiliation to the reformed imperial city of Heilbronn , Flein has been predominantly Protestant up to the present day . A larger Catholic community only developed after the Second World War due to the influx of around 300 Catholic expellees, mostly from southern and eastern Europe. The Flein Catholics were initially looked after by a Catholic clergyman from neighboring Heilbronn-Sontheim , and the services were held in the Protestant St. Vitus Church . The first considerations to build a Catholic chapel of their own came up in 1951, then the search for a suitable building site and financing of the building project began.

The Heilbronn architect Richard Schumacher had campaigned for a building site in Gewann Bildäcker and was therefore entrusted with the planning of the new church to be built in June 1955. The diocesan administration in Rottenburg am Neckar approved the draft with some proposed changes. On September 4, 1955, the foundation stone made by master sculptor Julius Bindreif was laid and consecrated by Dean Wilhelm Dietrich, Kochertürn, Dean Neckarsulm. With the laying of the foundation stone, construction of the church according to Schumacher's plans began. Most of the church was built by voluntary “Flemish construction workers”. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on January 20, 1956, and on the penultimate weekend of July 1956, the church was consecrated by Bishop Karl-Joseph Leiprecht in honor of the Holy Trinity . The two bells of the church were cast in May 1956 at the Bachert bell foundry in Heilbronn and are matched to the bells of the neighboring St. Vitus Church . The larger bell is dedicated to Mary the Queen and the smaller one to St. Theresa . Most of the property and construction were financed by the Fleiner Catholic community, one third of which was supported by the diocesan administration in Rottenburg and in addition received a large donation in 1956 from Bishop Blasius Kurz from Sontheim to cover the outstanding debts.

In 1965 the Catholic parish acquired a plot of land adjacent to the church to build a parish hall. In 1967 the roof of the church was badly damaged by a storm. In 1974/75 the parish hall was built next to the church according to plans by the Sontheim architect Hugo Krach. In memory of the Clarakloster founded nearby in the Middle Ages , the parish hall of St. Clare was consecrated.

After the Fleiner congregation continued to be cared for from Sontheim until the mid-1970s, which has since grown to 1,100 parishioners, the congregation was merged with the Catholic parish in Talheim on January 1, 1978 .
