The three buildings on Stiftstrasse in Darmstadt are called the “Blue House” group of three houses .
History and description
The houses that have been preserved form the northern wing of the group of houses built in 1903 and 1904 with a wide variety of structural details and materials. They are the only remaining buildings from the second exhibition of the Darmstadt artists' colony . Stylistically, the property belongs to Art Nouveau . The architect Joseph Maria Olbrich used colored building ceramics for two-dimensional , decorative design of facade parts . The blue building ceramics are particularly striking. The characteristic, towering gable was destroyed in an air raid in 1944. In 1950, a simplified reconstruction took place, including the preserved facade parts with the distinctive clinker decoration .
Monument protection
For architectural, architectural and city history reasons, the property is a listed building .
