The Drinkwater Poind ( English for drinking water pond ) is a small lake on Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . On the Byers Peninsula, it lies on a plateau at the head of a river that feeds a lagoon 800 m east of Point Smellie on President Beaches .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it so in 1993 because it had served as a drinking water reservoir for a team from the British Antarctic Survey who worked in the area from 1990 to 1991.
