Commander of the Pomeranian Sea Defense
The Commander of the Pomeranian Sea Defense , or Seekommandant Pommern for short , was a regional coastal commander of the German Navy in World War II , who was subordinate to the Commanding Admiral Western Baltic Sea . The staff was in Swinoujscie .
The office was set up in November 1944 and disbanded in spring 1945 when the German Wehrmacht withdrew. It must be distinguished from that of the former Pomeranian Coast Commander , which was dissolved in 1943.
The area of responsibility extended from the border between Pomerania and Danzig-West Prussia westwards to the Darß .
Forces from the sea command were deployed to defend against the Soviet advance in Pomerania and in particular the Stettin-Rostock operation , but could not stop them.
