Admiral of the north coast of Norway
Admiral of the Norwegian north coast , from February 1943 commanding admiral of the Norwegian north coast , was the name of a military service of the German navy and its commander. It was erected in May 1940 after the German occupation of Norway during World War II . The headquarters were in Trondheim . The superior agency was the commanding Admiral Norway , who on February 1, 1943 was renamed Commander in Chief of the Naval High Command Norway .
The establishment of the office was preceded by the establishment of a port commander in April 1940 and the establishment of the staff of the sea commander Drontheim in early May 1940 . From the latter, the Admiral of the Norwegian North Coast was formed on May 31, 1940.
The area of command initially extended from the Vinjefjord near Kristiansund to the Finnish- Norwegian border. During a reorganization in August 1940, the Admiral Norwegian West Coast ceded the area north of Bodø to the new Admiral of the Norwegian Arctic Coast . At the same time he was assigned the Molde sea command , so that his area in the south was extended to the Stadlandet peninsula .
The admiral of the Norwegian north coast was at the same time the coastal commander and the commander of the security forces deployed in his area. In addition, the coastal artillery stationed there was tactically subordinate to him.
After the German surrender in 1945, the office remained in existence for a few months to return the German troops to their homeland. The commanding Admiral Erich Schulte Mönting was taken prisoner in August 1945.
