Leopold Bruno Paul Siemens (born May 17, 1889 in Berlin ; † December 7, 1979 in Essen ) was a German naval officer , most recently as Vice Admiral in the Navy .

Life

Siemens joined the Imperial Navy on April 1, 1910 as an officer candidate . During the First World War he served on board SMS Rheinland , SMS Frauenlob and SMS Friedrich der Große as radio officer and flag lieutenant in the 1st Squadron of the High Seas Fleet .

After the end of the war he remained active and was accepted into the Reichsmarine . He was promoted to lieutenant captain in 1921 and to corvette captain in 1929 . From September 1935 to September 1937 Siemens was in command of the light cruiser Karlsruhe . He was then from September 29, 1937 until the beginning of the Second World War, naval attaché at the German embassy in London and The Hague , based in London. After that, from September 1939 he became chief of the submarine office in the naval high command .

From 1940 to 1941 Siemens was 2nd admiral of the fleet, embarked on the fleet tender Hela , and then admiral of the Norwegian north coast , from 1943 commanding admiral of the Norwegian north coast . On November 6, 1944, he was released from this post and made available to the Commander in Chief of the Baltic Sea Command. Siemens also received the German Cross in Gold on November 8, 1944 . On January 31, 1945 he retired from military service. A day later, Siemens was made available to the Navy, but no longer used for active service.
