Admiral of the Norwegian Arctic Coast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Admiral of the Norwegian Arctic Coast , from February 1943 Commanding Admiral of the Norwegian Arctic Coast , was the name of a military service of the German Navy and its commander. It was erected in August 1940 after the German occupation of Norway in World War II . The headquarters were in Tromso . The superior agency was the commanding Admiral Norway , who on February 1, 1943 was renamed Commander in Chief of the Naval High Command Norway .

The establishment of the office was preceded by the establishment of a port captain or port commander in April 1940 and the establishment of the staff of the sea commander Narvik on June 14, 1940 . These were initially subordinate to the admiral of the Norwegian north coast .

In August 1940, the area boundaries of the naval commanders in Norway were redefined. The staff of the dissolved Admiral of the Norwegian South Coast was relocated to Tromso, where it set up the new Admiral of the Norwegian Arctic Coast. The commander also moved from Kristiansand- Süd to Tromsö.

The area of command initially extended from Bodø to the Finnish- Norwegian border. In the last months of the war the northern and eastern parts of the command area were lost.

The admiral of the Norwegian north coast was at the same time the coastal commander and the commander of the security forces deployed in his area. In addition, the coastal artillery stationed there was tactically subordinate to him. After the German surrender in 1945 , the office remained in existence for a few months to return the German troops to their homeland.
