The 1. Landungs-Division was a major military unit of the German Navy in World War II .

Division history

The division was set up in the spring of 1942 under the designation 1. Landungs-Lehr-Division in Amsterdam in the Netherlands . She was subordinated to the Admiral of the Naval Command. The formation of the association took place for the purpose of the planned landing in Great Britain ( Sea Lion Company ) formed landing training units and ship associations.

The division was renamed the 1st Landing Division, also known as the 1st Landing Division Baltic Sea , in autumn 1943. With the beginning of the Allied invasion, the division was entrusted with translation tasks in the area of ​​the lower Seine . In September the division took over the supply, reinforcement and repatriation of the 15th Army . This was followed by the withdrawal of the division across the Rhine , Mittelland Canal and the Oder in the area of Stralsund and Swinoujscie . After the German defeat in Normandy and the evacuation of France , the division was disbanded in November 1944. The flotillas were assigned to the 10th Security Division of the Navy.
