Dripping Springs is a city in Hays County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located about 40 km west of Austin on US Highway 290 in the north of the county in southeastern Texas.
history
The first settler arrived here in 1849 and other families settled in the valleys of Little Barton and Onion Creek in the following years . In 1857 the place was founded and received its first post office. In 1881 the Dripping Springs Academy opened its doors.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 1,548 people lived here in 554 households and 418 families. The population density was 181.1 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 86.50% White, 0.26% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 10.59% other ethnic groups. About 1.94% were mixed race and 18.73% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 554 households, 41.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.6% of these were married couples living together. 9.7% were single mothers and 24.4% were non-families. 20.9% of all households were single households and 9.2% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.24.
29.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.4% 18 to 24, 30.7% 25 to 44, 22.5% 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 105.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 103.9 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 47,212 , and the median income for a family is $ 57,880. Males had a median income of $ 40,393 versus $ 30,862 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,741. 11.0% of the population and 5.1% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 13.7% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 3.1% were 65 or older.
