Drosera graniticola is a carnivorous plant from the genus of the sundew ( Drosera ) and wasfirst describedby Neville Marchant in 1982.

description

Drosera graniticola is a delicate, upright, gray-green, hairless and up to 20 cm high plant. It becomes partially red with age and has solitary and paired catch leaves along the stem axis . In the flowering phase, another leaf is formed on the pair of catch leaves. In addition, the lower part of the stem axis is covered with some awl-shaped bracts. The upper part of the plant branches into one or two branches with single or grouped leaves

The leaf blades are sickle-shaped , 2 mm long and 2 mm wide and point outwards. Longer tentacle glands are located along the slightly concave edge. Smaller tentacle glands inside. The leaf stalks are flattened round, 10 mm long and slightly tapering. The lateral petioles, if present, are 7 mm long.

Flowering time is from August to December. The grape-like inflorescence sits at the top of the plant and on the side branches and consists of up to 10 white flowers on 5 to 10 mm long, hairless flower stalks . The sepals are green, broadly ovate- elliptical, 1.5 mm long and 1.5 mm wide. The upper edges and the tips are serrated irregularly . The surface is covered with tiny reddish brown blobs and sometimes has a few sessile glands. The rest is hairless. The petals are elongated, 5 mm long and 3 mm wide with slightly notched tips. The 5 stamens are 2 mm long, the stamens are white, the anthers are white with numerous red spots and the pollen is yellow. The ovary is green, dotted with black, top-shaped, 1 mm in diameter and 1 mm long. The three, rarely four styluses are white at the base, pointed pink, 1 mm long and almost horizontal. On the upper half, they are divided into a few, flattened, round segments. The scars are white and are located on each stylus segment.

The tuber is white, round, has a diameter of around 7 mm and is wrapped in a roughened, paper-like leaf sheath. It is located on a 15 cm long, vertical branch. Like all so-called "Tuberous Drosera", it retreats into this tuber at times of high temperatures and relative dryness and survives underground.

Distribution of Drosera graniticola in Australia

Distribution, habitat and status

The species is endemic to the area southeast of Hyden in southwest Australia. It thrives there near pools, in and on granite outcrops on coarse-grained clay soils.

Systematics

Drosera graniticola belongs to the subgenus Ergaleium , Ergaleium section, i.e. to the climbing bulbous drosera.
