Drymus latus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs are 4.8 to 5.9 millimeters long. The species of the genus are difficult to determine. In Drymus latus , the rails ( tibia ) are provided with long, upright hair and the thighs ( femora ) of the front legs have one large or two to three smaller teeth. On the shiny underside of the abdomen, the animals occasionally have hairs.
distribution and habitat
The rare species is widespread in Europe and occurs mainly in southern western and central Europe and as far as the north of the Mediterranean countries. In the southeast the distribution area extends to the Black Sea. In Germany the species has only been found sporadically in the south, up to the northern edge of the low mountain range. The species is rare in Austria, but has been found in all federal states. The species is found both in dry and temperature-favored, as well as in moist open habitats, on loamy, sandy or rocky soils. Most often, however, it lives on lime.
Way of life
Little is known about the way of life of the species. It lives in the ground under the litter and moss. Rare to find Imagines on the plants. The species seems to mint to be bound (Lamiaceae); they are mostly found in Germany under thyme ( thymus ). However, thick moss growth also seems to be important to them. Apparently a generation develops each year that becomes adult from August, less often from mid-July.
