Drymus ryeii is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .

features

The bugs are 3.6 to 4.7 millimeters long. The species of the genus are difficult to determine. In Drymus ryeii and Drymus sylvaticus , the rails ( tibia ) lack long, upright hair and the scutellum and pronotum are completely black. Drymus ryeii can be distinguished by the uniformly dark forewings and the blackish membrane. The wings are also usually slightly shorter than the abdomen. The hind wings are reduced in most animals, so that the bugs are unable to fly.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed in Europe from the northern edge of the Mediterranean to the south of Scandinavia. In the east the distribution area extends to Siberia. The species occurs frequently in Central Europe and rises in the Alps to the Krummholz stage. It colonizes moist, usually shady areas, especially in deciduous forests, and more rarely open, densely vegetated areas and lives in the litter layer and in moss cushions. They are often found in alluvial forests, where they can even tolerate flooding lasting several weeks.

Way of life

The animals rarely climb plants. Nothing is known about their eating habits. The adults hibernate and mate in May and June. The females lay their eggs in the litter. The nymphs can be found until late autumn, but the adults of the new generation appear as early as August. One generation is trained every year.
