Drymus sylvaticus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs are 3.5 to 4.7 millimeters long. The species of the genus are difficult to determine. In Drymus sylvaticus and Drymus ryeii , the rails ( tibia ) lack long, upright hair and the scutellum and pronotum are completely black. Drymus ryeii can be distinguished by the pale brown, black patterned fore wings ( a dark, elongated rectangle at the apex of the clavus ). The wings are also usually slightly longer than the abdomen. Most adults are macropter, so they are fully winged and can fly.
distribution and habitat
The species is spread across the Palearctic and occurs in Europe to the south of Scandinavia and in the south to the north of the Mediterranean countries. In the east the distribution area extends to Siberia and China. In Central Europe, the species is common everywhere and rises in the Alps to well over 1000 meters above sea level. It colonizes the litter layer of open habitats on different soils. In northern Germany, they are also found on sand, often in broom Gentiles -Heiden.
Way of life
The animals suckle on seeds, although no specific food plants are known. As with Drymus ryeii, the adults overwinter. One generation occurs per year in Central Europe. In Great Britain, partial and rarely complete second generations are said to have been observed.
