Dryope ( Greek  Δρυόπη ) is a figure from Greek mythology . She is the daughter of Dryops or Eurytus of Oichalia and, with Apollo, the mother of Amphissus .

Her story is about a criminal transformation in which Dryope, similar to Daphne , is turned into a tree because she picks flowers from a lotus tree at a crater lake with myrrh bushes without knowing that the tree was transformed Nymph Lotis acts. However, their ignorance does not save them from punishment. The story is partly told from the perspective of her sister, who had to watch the transformation.

Antoninus Liberalis tells a different story based on the metamorphoses of Nicandros from Colophon . Accordingly, Apollon Dryope saw her dancing with her friends, the Hamadryads , on Mount Oita and tending her father's flocks. In order to be able to approach her undisturbed, Apollon transformed into a turtle, with which Dryope and the nymphs finally began to play. When Dryope held the turtle in his arms, the animal or Apollo turned into a snake. Out of fear, the hamadryads ran away and left Apollon alone with Dryope. A short time later, Dryope married Andraimon , son of Oxylos , and gave birth to Amphissus, son of Apollo. One day while Dryope was on his way to the temple, they raided the hamadryads, turned her into a nymph, and left behind a poplar tree and a spring. Amphissus had a holy shrine built at this point.
