Paul Weizsäcker

Paul Weizsäcker (born August 4, 1850 in Adelberg Monastery ; † March 11, 1917 in Ludwigsburg ) was a German high school teacher, classical philologist and archaeologist .

life and work

Paul Weizsäcker, son of a pastor, attended the Latin school in Schorndorf and the Protestant seminar in Schöntal . From 1868 he studied at the Evangelical Abbey and at the University of Tübingen . In addition to theology, he studied classical philology with Wilhelm Siegmund Teuffel and classical archeology with Adolf Michaelis . In 1875 he received his doctorate in Tübingen with a thesis on clit crater . In 1874 he entered the school service and taught in Calw , Nürtingen , Biberach an der Riss , Heidenheim an der Brenz and Ludwigsburg . From 1886 until his retirement in 1912 he was the director of the secondary school in Calw. In 1898 he became a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .

In addition to his teaching activities, Weizsäcker published a lot in the field of classical studies, in particular on the interpretation of Pausanias , as well as numerous articles for the detailed lexicon of Greek and Roman mythology . He has also published on German classical music , especially Wieland , and local history of Württemberg , especially Hirsau Monastery .
