Juggernaut [ ˈdʒʌɡə (r) ˌnɔːt ] is a metaphorical term from English . It stands for an unstoppable force that destroys everything that stands in its way. The word originates from the huge, many tons heavy processional floats ( ratha ), which are used during a certain Hindu procession ( ratha yatra ) in honor of the god Jagannatha . Once started, people can hardly stop these cars. During the British occupation of India, the term came into the English language and from there today partly into German. In the English colloquial language, this term is also used to describe a heavy semi-trailer truck.

The sociologist Anthony Giddens compares the institutions of the modern age with the (car of the) Juggernaut (in the German translation Dschagganath car ): With their force they destroy everything, but are hardly controllable. This metaphor was received from different sides.

In computer games, Juggernaut usually refers to a type of game that, compared to other opponents, has very high resistance and can cause extreme damage. For example, in the Call of Duty series games, the name Juggernaut is used for units that are protected by a bombproof suit and that require far increased firepower to eliminate. Another example is the Juggernaut from the game Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars , this represents an almost unstoppable artillery piece. In the game BattleForge , a character is also called a Juggernaut who can use a special skill to overrun walls and enemy units.

Computer program

Juggernaut is a computer program ( session hijacking - Tool ), which as an attack tool for computer networks is used that the TCP using protocol. It is usually used on the LAN . Juggernaut monitors the network traffic and lists the TCP connections. The data exchanged in the TCP sessions can be viewed and recorded. It is also possible to reset and take over TCP sessions.
