Jungle Gang is a children's game by the game designers Manfred Reindl and Stefan Dorra . The game for two to four players, ages five and up, lasts around 20 minutes per round. It was published by Kosmos Spiele in 2016 and was included in the list of recommendations for the children's game of the year critics award in the same year .

Theme and equipment

In the game, four explorers make the way between their campfire in the jungle over a river to the jungle toad king, while the jungle gang consisting of a monkey, an elephant, a tiger, a toucan and an anteater swim in the river and float down the river.

In addition to game instructions, the game material consists of:

  • a game board on the game box, consisting of the river with four parallel river parts and the level above with the path of the explorers across the river
  • four colored pawns
  • a cube with animal motifs
  • 5 tiles with animal motifs (friends chips)
  • 30 square animal cards

Style of play

Before the game starts, the game board consists of two parts by laying the path of the explorers on the river. Each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding token and the pawns are placed on the field with the campfire. Then each player receives a friend chip with an animal motif. The 30 animal cards are shuffled, eight cards are drawn and placed face up in front of the river sections. Then two cards are pushed into each section of the river so that one remains under the bridge and one appears in the open water holes. The starting player, who is the youngest player according to the instructions, receives the dice and begins the game.

Actions per turn
  • roll the dice
  • Insert animal cards
  • Move scoring
  • Evaluate friends chip

The starting player rolls the dice and if he shows an animal symbol besides the snake, he can proceed to the next action and insert an animal card and score the move. If, on the other hand, the die shows a snake, the game figure or figures that are furthest in front must move back one space. but only if it is already at least in the seventh field after the campfire, marked by a snake crawling out of the bushes. Then the player may roll the dice again and if he rolls a snake again, the leading one is set back one more space, but then the dice are not rolled again. In all other cases the player may slide an animal card into one of the river sections in order to slide one or two animal cards out from under the bridges into an open water hole.

After this has happened, the move is scored. All of the animal tokens of the animal thrown on the die that are now open in the water holes are counted and the player's pawn moves forward the corresponding number of spaces. If, at the beginning of his turn, a player is also standing on the suspension bridge, the tree trunk or the waterfall next to an animal tile that corresponds to his friend chip, he may move one more space forward.

The game ends as soon as a figure reaches the last space of the path with the jungle toad king depicted there and wins the game.
