The du Maurier Open 2000 was the 111th edition of the hard court tennis tournament. As a Masters tournament, the tournament was part of the male ATP series as well as part of the female WTA Tour , where it had the status of a Tier I tournament. The prize money for the men was $ 2,450,000 each for singles and doubles, and for women $ 1,080,000 each. It was the last time the du Maurier cigarette brand was the title sponsor as tobacco advertising was banned from then on.

The men's tournament took place from July 31 to August 6, 2000 at the National Tennis Center in Toronto , the women's tournament from August 12 to 20 at the Stade Uniprix in Montreal .

Defending champion in the men's singles was the Swede Thomas Johansson , who was eliminated in the second round this year. Marat Safin secured the title . This was Safin's third title of the season and his first ever Masters tournament.

In the men's doubles, the Canadian doubles Sébastien Lareau and Daniel Nestor celebrated a home win. The defending champions Jonas Björkman and Patrick Rafter did not compete in this constellation. Rafter decided not to participate and Björkman and his partner Max Mirny made it to the semi-finals.

In the women's category, Martina Hingis defended her title in singles and also won the doubles competition with her partner Nathalie Tauziat . It was Hingi's fifth single and third double title of the season , but she had won the previous two titles with Mary Pierce . For Tauziat it was the second double title of the season.
