You Ruiqing
Du Ruiqing Chinese杜瑞清 (born December 1943 , died November 20, 2019 ) was a Chinese translator , educator, and academic administrator. He was one of the founders of the Australian Studies in China . From 1998 to 2005 he was President of the Xi'an Foreign Languages Institute . He was the editor of the New Century English-Chinese Dictionary (新 世纪 汉英 大 辞典) and received the 4th Lifetime Achievement Award from the China Dictionary Society.
Life
You was born in Fufeng District , Shaanxi , Republic of China in December 1943 . He graduated from the English Department of the Xi'an Foreign Languages Institute (now Xi'an International Studies University ) in September 1967 and later became a faculty member of the institute. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1972 .
In 1979, after the end of the Cultural Revolution , you were one of the first nine people to be sent to Australia to study by the Chinese government . He earned a Masters Degree in English Literature from the University of Sydney in 1981 . He then studied at Brigham Young University in the United States , where he received his doctorate.
After returning to China, he continued teaching at the Xi'an Foreign Languages Institute and was appointed professor in 1991. In 1992 the State Council of the People's Republic of China granted him a special pension for outstanding scientists. He later served as Chairman of the English Department, Vice President (June 1995 to July 1998) and President (July 1998 to March 2005) of the Xi'an Foreign Languages Institute. He retired in April 2005.
You died on November 20, 2019 in Xi'an at the age of 75.

You were a founder of the Australian studies in China. He was one of the first to teach Australian literature in China in the early 1980s. Under his leadership, the Xi'an Foreign Languages Institute established its Australian Studies Center in 2000, one of the first of its kind in China.
He has written or edited numerous English textbooks, anthologies of English and Western literature, and reference books, including the New Century English-Chinese Dictionary (新 世纪 汉英 大 辞典). He is the author of the book Chinese Higher Education: A Decade of Reform and Development in English and has published more than 50 research papers. In September 2018, the China Dictionary Society presented him with their 4th Lifetime Achievement Award.
