Dub techno is a special form of techno that became popular in the early 2000s.

The style is mostly based on the techno-typical 4/4 time , with an emphasis on each quarter by an electronic bass drum in combination with other instruments and riffs, which are often enriched with repetitive effects such as reverb , echo and phaser to create a warm one to achieve an atmospheric sound, which is particularly used in dub . However, some productions also have a more technical sound, often described as cold. The style makes very strong use of technical means of production and only influences from dub and can therefore not be directly described as a dub sub-genre, as it usually has no similarities or parallels with reggae . A frequently used element is also a repeated, short and progressive pad sound with reverberation and echo ( delay effect ).

While some styles of electronic music are defined by their hardness and speed, dub techno can move in a framework from ambient- influenced music to minimal techno , to faster electronic dance music , sometimes with house influences, and is often characterized with a sound that listeners perceive as gentle and comparatively relaxing. Productions with a particularly reduced or non-existent beat and a focus on atmosphere are sometimes referred to as ambient dub .

The net label Thinner , which achieved cult status in the net label scene , has long been particularly productive in this area . The ~ Scape label is best known for more ambient-heavy dub techno productions. Dub Taylor , Pole and Dirk Diggler are among the most important representatives .

In contrast to more common dub techno, in which the characteristic techno music is in the foreground, the producers Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus (known as Basic Channel ) as well as Rod Modell, Stephen Hitchell and Mike Schommer stand out with a musical style, who unites or develops the different genres of music dub and techno.
