Life and career

Stefan Betke was born in 1967 in Düsseldorf, where he also grew up. He played keyboards and synthesizers in various bands.

In the mid-1990s, the musician, who then lived in Cologne, discovered a characteristic crackling noise while working with a defective Waldorf 4-pole analog filter, which he used as the basis for the production of his first pieces of music.

In 1996 Betke moved to Berlin , where he produced other pieces of music and worked as a mastering engineer at Dubplates & Mastering. His simply 1 titled album was released in 1998 on Kiff SM and received good to very good reviews. In 1999 and 2000 the follow-up albums of series 2 and 3 were released . The remix album R was later released with Betke's own variations and remixes by Kit Clayton and Burnt Friedman .

In 1999 Betke founded the ~ scape label together with Barbara Preisinger , on which Jan Jelinek , Deadbeat , Kit Clayton , Safety Scissors , John Tejada and Mapstation , among others, published their own publications as a Pole . In the same year Betke left Dubplates & Mastering and founded his own mastering studio Scape Mastering.

In 2003 the self-titled album Pole auf Mute followed . Before Betke 2008, his first album as a compilation 1 2 3 on ~ scape re-released , released in 2007 the album rock garden .

In 2011 Betke founded another label, Pole , on which, in addition to re-releases of previous Pole works, a new series of 12 " Forest Stories was published.

Betke performed live as a Pole in London's Fabric , Berlin's Watergate and New York's The Bunker .
