The Fabric is a techno club in London , England and is considered one of the best known and best in the world.

History and special features

The club was founded by Keith Reilly and Cameron Leslie and opened on October 29, 1999. It is divided into three separate rooms with their own sound system. A special feature of the club is a vibrating floor in "Room One", which moved to the music that was being played. The floor is known as the "bodysonic dancefloor".

Closing in 2016 and reopening in 2017

After two people died in the vicinity of the Fabric within six weeks after consuming ecstasy , the club was investigated by authorities. In this context, the operator's operating license was temporarily withdrawn for 28 days. After the evaluation by the Islington Council Licensing Sub-Committee , the operating license was permanently revoked. In its assessment, the committee found that the drugs were purchased within the fabric, that security measures were inadequate, and that the staff was insufficiently trained. A petition with over 150,000 signatures and the advocacy of London Mayor Sadiq Khan and MEP Emily Thornberry were unsuccessful.

It wasn't until a final hearing at Islington Council in November 2016 to get the license back with new conditions. The conditions include the ban on entry of people under 19 years of age from Friday, 8 p.m. to Monday, 8 a.m. Sadiq Khan, meanwhile, spoke out in favor of London's nightlife, which has already lost around 50 percent of clubs since 2008.

Numerous greats of the scene such as Richie Hawtin , Sasha , John Digweed , Carl Craig , Ricardo Villalobos , Chris Liebing , Adam Beyer , Carl Cox and Plump DJs played in Fabric . Friday (Fabric Live at Fabric) is usually breakbeat , drum and bass and hip-hop played on Saturdays (at Fabric Fabric) , however, Techno , Minimal Techno , Electro and House .

Awards

In 2008 the fabric reached first place in the "Top 100 Clubs" list of the British magazine DJ Magazine and thus carried the unofficial title of Best Club in the World . From 2009 to 2011 it reached number 2 on the same list.
