The railway bridge over the Dubysa near Lyduvėnai |
The Dubysa (German: Dubissa) is a right tributary of the Memel in Lithuania . From the middle reaches the Dubysa flows deeply embedded in a valley. She is popular for paddling. The water quality also allows swimming in the river.
Sights and buildings
The river is natural and has not been straightened, apart from several small barrages that come from former watermills .
The most striking structure is the railway bridge originally built by Germans during World War I, the "Hindenburg Bridge" near Lyduvėnai , which is the longest bridge in Lithuania with a length of 600 m. The Venta-Dubysa Canal connects to the Venta river system to the north . There are numerous archaeological monuments on the shore, especially castle mounds from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages.
