Duck Baker

Duck Baker (* 30th July 1949 in Washington, DC as Richard Royal Baker IV ) is an American fingerstyle - guitarist .

Life

Baker grew up in Richmond, Virginia and moved to San Francisco in the early 1970s . In his game he combines numerous different genres such as ragtimes , blues , country , gospel , Cajun , bluegrass , Celtic music , ballads and jazz , swing , New Orleans jazz and free jazz . His solo recordings were mainly influenced by Thelonious Monk , Herbie Nichols and Randy Weston . His album "Spinning Song" with pieces by Nichols was acclaimed by various trade magazines.

In addition to his solo career, Baker played and plays with various musicians, such as the fiddle player Kieran Fahy , the trombonist Roswell Rudd and the guitarist Woody Mann . He performs as a trio with the violinist Carla Kihlstedt and the clarinetist Ben Goldberg.
