Location of Duckmaus in Bergisch Gladbach |
Duckmaus is a district in the Lückerath district of Bergisch Gladbach .
history
The name Duckmaus is an old settlement and field name that is recorded in the original cadastre in the area of today's Duckmaus street. From the early modern farm establishment after 1500, a small hamlet with 30 inhabitants developed by 1878 . In the 1905 census , the population had dropped to 14.
The meaning of the name of the settlement remains largely vague. The basic word mouse in field names indicates an above-average occurrence of this animal species in the area. There are different hypotheses for the defining word duck : It could be an ablaut form of "thickness / thick" (= thicket, thicket). Duck could also be interpreted as a subsidiary form of "donk / dunk" . In this case it would be a small elevation in the marshland. As a third thesis , a camouflaged weir system could also be assumed with the term duck mouse .
