Duich is a small settlement on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about three miles south of Bowmore , the capital of the island, and ten miles north-northwest of the Port Ellen ferry terminal near the Duich River. The closest settlement is about four kilometers south of Glenegedale . The village is divided into the settlements Duich , Duich Moor , also Duich Muir or Duich Moss , and Duich Farm . Today only the Duich Farm located on the A846 is still inhabited in Duich . In 1841 37 people were still counted in Duich. Another 85 lived in Duich Moor and 12 on Duich Farm. In 1851 only 103 people lived in Duich.
Not far from Duich Farm, the remains of a circle of huts were discovered on a flat elevation in the moor, which proves the historical settlement of the region. A steel bridge once led northwest of Duich over the Duich River, which flows a little further into the Laggan . The construction cost was £ 140. No remains of this bridge, described as "elegant", have survived.
