Duisburg Dockers is a sports club from Duisburg in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The club operates the American sports American football , flag and wrestling . The club also has a cheerleading group called Blue Lightnings and two youth groups called "Blue Sparks" and "Blue Twinkles".

history

After it was founded in 1986, the Duisburg Dockers football team first started regular games in the Oberliga West in 1987. After promotion to the regional league in the 1991 season, he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1992 .

After Duisburg Dockers lost all their games in 1993, the team formed anew in the Oberliga in 1995 and stayed there until 1997. Although they were promoted to the Regionalliga, the team withdrew from play and started in the Association League in 2001, in which the Duisburg Dockers became champions and thus rose to the top division. In 2009 the Duisburg Dockers merged with the Niederrhein Thunderbirds. In 2012, the Duisburg Dockers added wrestling as another American sport to their program. In 2013 the club presented its new club logos. Successes have also been achieved in the sponsoring sector, with generous donations from medium-sized companies able to finance a baseball field in Duisburg-Neumühl. The capacities in the Schwelgern Stadium were no longer sufficient because the footballers also used the space for their training. The baseball players will therefore start their league operations in Neumühl from 2014. Thanks to the good financial cushion, the football department is continuously being expanded and developed. The board and the football department have also decided to reinstall a women's football team by the end of 2013.

In 2005, Duisburg Dockers co-organized the football section of the World Games . The final of the German national team against the Swedish national team was by far the most popular event of the World Games with around 16,000 spectators.
