Harvey Lembeck

Harvey Lembeck (born April 15, 1923 in Brooklyn , New York , † January 5, 1982 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor who played mainly comedic roles.

Career

Harvey Lembeck began his career at the age of 17 at the 1939/40 World Exhibition in New York , when he performed in a duo at dance performances. After the Second World War , he studied in New York and initially trained as a radio artist, but then decided to take up the stage. Shortly after graduating, he got a role in the Broadway play Mr. Roberts , which was performed for three years.

In the first cast of the play Stalag 17 , which premiered in 1951, he appeared more than 400 times in the role of Harry Shapiro. In 1953 he and his partner Robert Strauss were also engaged for the film adaptation of Billy Wilder of the same name . Until his death he played in numerous film and television productions. One of his best-known roles was that of the overconfident motorcyclist Eric Van Zipper , whom he played in several teenage and beach comedies in the 1960s.

Private life

Harvey Lembeck married Caroline Dubs, who was his dance partner at the dance performances at the world exhibition. He is the father of actor and director Michael Lembeck and actress Helaine Lembeck. The 58-year-old actor died unexpectedly of a heart attack in January 1982 on the set of the series Mork from the Ork , in which he played a guest role.
