The Dunagiri is a 7066  m high mountain in the western Himalayas . It belongs to the Garhwal region in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and is located in the Nanda Devi National Park .

Location and surroundings

The Dunagiri is located at the northwest end of the so-called Sanctuary Wall , an almost ring-shaped ridge around the Nanda Devi .

Ascent history

The Dunagiri was first climbed by Europeans on July 5, 1939 by the Swiss alpinists André Roch , Fritz Steuri and David Zogg over the southwest flank. In 1975 Joe Tasker and Dick Renshaw managed to conquer the particularly difficult south-east pillar in alpine style . In 1978 it was climbed for the fourth time by participants in the first Australian Himalayan expedition over the southwest ridge .
