Duncan I. Steel (born June 11, 1955 in Midsomer Norton ) is a British astronomer and asteroid explorer.
He graduated from the University of London with degrees in physics and astrophysics in 1977 and optics in 1979 . In 1984 he received his PhD from the University of Kent . He has lived in Wellington , the capital of New Zealand, since 2013 .
He discovered a total of twelve asteroids between 1990 and 1994 .
The asteroid (4713) Steel was named after him.
