Coordinates: 32 ° 24 ' S , 151 ° 45' O Dungog Shire is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 2,250.0 km² and has about 9,000 inhabitants.
Dungog is located in the middle of the Hunter Valley region about 225 km north of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprises 85 hamlets and hamlets, including Allynbrook, Bandon Grove, Bendolba, Brookfield, Chichester, Clarence Town, Fosterton, Gresford, East Gresford, Eccleston, Main Creek, Martins Creek, Paterson, Vacy, and most of Dungog. The headquarters of the Shire Council is in Dungog in the east of the LGA, where about 2,200 people live.

The Dungog Shire Council has nine members who are elected by the residents of the three wards (three each from A, B, and C ward). These three districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
