Dunnet Head is a peninsula on the northeast coast of Scotland and forms the northernmost point of the main British island. The peninsula belongs to the county of Caithness . At her neck is the lake of St John's Loch .

Dunnet Head has had a lighthouse since 1831, the Dunnet Head Lighthouse . The lighthouse was built by Robert Stevenson , the grandfather of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson . Since 1995 the lighthouse is no longer operated manually, but automatically. You can look over the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Islands . Nearby towns are Thurso and John o 'Groats .
