Plot and characters

Durango Lang , the protagonist of the series, is an antihero in the style of the Spaghetti Western . The plot of the first story, set in 1896 ( Dogs Howl in Winter , 1981) - a rancher bullies the settlers in the remote White Valley - is based on motifs from Sergio Corbucci's film Corpses pave his way . Later stories, which take place in Wyoming, Texas and Mexico, for example, fall back on other typical motifs of the Western genre, such as a bank robbery ( violence, anger and death , 1982), fights by gangs and guerrillas (including Wilde Sierra , 1985) or the hunt for a pot of gold ( Duncan's Gold , 1990). Supporting characters in the series who appear in multiple stories include: B. the Mexican guerrilla Amos Rodriguez and the bounty hunter Logan .

reception

Reviews stressed the strong influence of spaghetti westerns on the Durango comics. In terms of drawing style, Lieutenant Blueberry creator Jean Giraud is one of Yves Swolfs' role models.
