history
English Basketball League (2005 to 2011)
After a regionally active basketball team had existed at Belmont College in the City of Durham since 2001, the Wildcats were founded in 2005 as a team that should compete in the national competitions of the EBL. In their first season, the Wildcats were accepted into the third division of the EBL and played their home games at the Spennymoor Leisure Center. After two years they moved to Newton Aycliffe in the Leisure Center there in the south of the Unitary Authority of County Durham on the border with Darlington . After a total of four seasons, they achieved promotion to the second division in 2009, in which they won the regular season and the play-offs in addition to the League Cup Patrons Cup . With that they had reached Division One. There they reached a seventh place in the 2010/11 season. Despite the sporty rather average season in the top English league, they applied for membership in the closed professional league BBL.
British Basketball League (since 2011)
After the application for membership in the BBL had been granted, the Wildcats achieved three wins in 30 games in their premiere season in the BBL and finished eleventh and last in the table. The regional rivals and established Eagles from Newcastle upon Tyne , the administrative seat of North East England , dominated the BBL this season and won all titles in the end. In their second season 2012/13, the Wildcats won ten of 33 games and finished tenth and in this season third from last place in the table.
