Dusty the Klepto Kitty

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dusty the Klepto Kitty (born March 20, 2006 in San Mateo , California ; German for example: "Dusty, the kleptomaniac kitten") is a male house cat of the Snowshoe breed . He became famous when his "thieving tours" were the subject of several television reports. Among other things, he was a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman .

Life

Since 2006 the cat has lived in the household of Jean Chu and Jim Coleman, who adopted Dusto from the Peninsula Humane Society . After two uneventful years, its owners suddenly began to notice that unusual things were appearing in their household that did not belong to them. The suspicion quickly fell on her house cat, which actually turned out to be the culprit.

The thieves continued in the neighborhood. In February 2011, Dusty was first introduced to a broader public on the television show Must Love Cats on Animal Planet . On the show, one of his forays was captured with a night vision camera. Shortly thereafter, a report by Vic Lee appeared for KGO-TV and Dusty appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. There the full extent of his forays was listed: 16 car wash gloves, seven sponges, 213 dishcloths, seven washcloths, five towels, 18 shoes, 73 socks, 100 gloves, a pair of oven gloves, three aprons, 40 balls, four times underwear, a dog collar, six Animal toys, a blanket, three leg warmers, two frisbees, a golf club cap, a safety mask, two mesh bags, a bag of water balloons, pajama pants, eight swimsuits and eight unknown objects. To date there are said to have been more than 600 objects that the cat captured.

Through his appearances, Dusty became a national star. He has appeared at events in the San Francisco Bay Area and was Grand Marshal of the Redwood City Pet Parade in May 2011. He appeared as a donation mascot for the Peninsula Humane Society in June 2011. A three-minute short film called Klepto Kitty starring Dusty is featured as bonus material on the DVD release of Puss in Boots .
