Duvalia caespitosa is a species of the subfamily of the silk plants (Asclepiadoideae).
features
The stem succulent shoots reach a height of up to 10 cm and a thickness of up to 2.2 cm. They are oval to cylindrical, square to pentagonal in cross section and dark green. The leaflets are inconspicuous (about 2 mm).
The 1 to 2.5 cm long peduncle with one or more flowers arises near the base of the shoot. The flower smells strongly of feces. The five sepals measure 2 to 6 mm in length. The corolla has a diameter of 2 to 3.5 cm. It is red-brown, chocolate-brown, brown-violet to purple-colored, rarely light brown. The (free) corolla lobes are up to 15 mm long and 9 mm wide at the base. The lamina is completely turned over, the edges are hairy at the base or along the entire length. The hair is simple (about 0.4 mm long) or club-like (up to 2.6 mm long). The annulus is rounded to rounded pentagonal, somewhat constricted at the base. It measures 7 to 11 mm in diameter and is 2 to 5 mm high. It is often spotted and usually covered with papillae or hair. The secondary crown, which is 5 to 7 mm in diameter, is yellow to red-brown in color with a round to rounded pentagonal disc. The staminal coronary lobes are rounded, square or rectangular (1.5 to 2.2 mm × 1.5 to 2.5 mm).
The follicles are spindle-shaped and 6 to 17 inches long. The seeds measure 4 to 6 mm in length and 3 mm in width.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 44.
Occurrence
