Dwight Evans (born May 16, 1954 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Since November 14, 2016, he has represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dwight Evans attended Germantown High School until 1971 . In 1973 he graduated from the Community College of Philadelphia . He then studied until 1975 at La Salle University, also in Philadelphia. He then began a career as a school service teacher in Philadelphia. He also works as an advisor to the local section of the National Urban League . In his home country he is a member of numerous organizations and associations.

Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016 . In 1986 he ran unsuccessfully within his party for nomination for the office of lieutenant governor of his state. In 1994 he suffered the same fate when he tried to run for governor . In 1999 and 2007, he also unsuccessfully sought the nomination for mayoral candidate for Philadelphia.

In the congressional elections of 2016 Dwight Evans was a candidate of his party in the second constituency of the State of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC selected. Two elections were held for this seat that day, both of which were won by Evans. The first election determined the successor of the resigned Congressman Chaka Fattah to end his legislative term until January 3, 2017. The second election was part of the regular congressional elections in 2016. For these reasons, Evans was able to take up his new mandate on November 14, 2016 . He was also a member of the new Congress, which met on January 3, 2017.

After the Pennsylvania constituency reorganization, he ran in the third district in the 2018 election. He prevailed against the Republican Bryan Leib with 93.3% of the vote. His term of office begins on January 3, 2019 and ends in January 2021.
