Dylan Taylor

Dylan Taylor (b. 1963 in Norfolk , Virginia ) is an American jazz cellist and bassist.

Taylor began playing the cello at the age of ten, playing the bass guitar at twelve and the viola at 18 . He later studied bass with Al Stauffer, Dennis Sandole , Buster Williams (with a scholarship from the NEA) and with John Patitucci . He began his professional career in the jazz scene in the Philadelphia area . Taylor became known through collaborations with musicians such as Herbie Hancock , Freddie Hubbard , Lee Konitz , Larry Coryell or Mose Allison ; As a cellist he played for several years in the group of the vibraphonist Khan Jamal , on whose CIMP album Percussion and Strings he participated in 1997. With Khan he also recorded the duo album Fire and Water . Taylor also played with Sam Dockery , in the Tom Lawton Trio, which performed at the Philadelphia Four Seasons Hotel , and in the quartet of saxophonist Tony Williams, which played at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. He took part in recordings of Bobby Zankel ; with singer Kelly Meashey he recorded the album Songs of Living on CIMP in 2002 .
