EG&G is a US-American service company that is active in the development, maintenance and support of military projects. Most orders come from the Department of Defense , the United States Department of Homeland Security and other government agencies.

history

EG & G was in 1947 by Harold Edgerton , a professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and two of his former students Kenneth Germeshausen and Herbert Grier as Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier, Inc. established. The three founders had worked together since 1934 and were involved in the Manhattan project as consultants for high-speed photography (see also Rapatronic camera ). In the 1950s and 1960s, EG&G was involved in the US nuclear weapons tests and expanded its range to include other services such as facility management, security services and pilot training.

In the 1970s and 1980s, EG&G bought many companies that produced electronic analysis equipment. However, these were sold again in the 1990s. In 1999 the company took over the measuring instruments division, including the German Bodenseewerk Perkin-Elmer in Überlingen , and also the name of Perkin-Elmer . From 1999 to 2002 EG&G belonged to the Carlyle Group , which George HW Bush also worked for at the time . In August 2002 EG&G was bought by URS Corporation . The company's headquarters were relocated from Wellesley , Massachusetts to Gaithersburg, Maryland. EG&G employs 11,000 people there.

Because of its participation in many top secret projects, the so-called Black Projects , of the US military, EG&G is often a target for conspiracy theories . The Janet flights from Las Vegas to the Nevada Test Site are also operated by EG&G.
